Go To Court, Sit & PAWnder, Take A Walk, Drive Like
Mad
Indiana-PAW Friends,
It's a good thing the days are
getting longer, because in "Indiana-PAW land," there aren't enough
hours in the day! Tonight, we're writing to pass along several
celebratory notes, along with a variety of "calls to action" for all
citizens interested in helping homeless Hoosier pets.
Go To Court - Make Your Voice Heard! Indy
Pit Crew and Casa
Del Toro Bully Breed Education & Rescue have asked
Indiana-PAW to let you know about an online calendar they've created
that tracks upcoming court hearings for dog-fighting cases in Marion
County. They want you to know how important it is that citizens
attend these hearings to demonstrate to judges and juries that
animal abuse is NOT acceptable in Indianapolis. You can view the
calendar online by clicking
here. You can also find guidelines on appropriate court behavior
from Casa Del Toro at our Indiana-PAW website by clicking
here. Thank you for giving these animals a voice!
Sit & PAWnder Judith
Mayer, one of Indiana-PAW's volunteers and the designer of our
Indiana-PAW magazine, Voices,
designed and painted this sculpture (right) in support of
Indiana-PAW, as part of the County
Seats sculpture project, which is an interactive sculpture
exhibit occurring outdoors throughout cities and towns located in
Lake, Porter and LaPorte (Indiana) Counties this summer. Thank you
Judith!
Louise Finds A Forever Home! Louise
(at left) was adopted in May, 2006, after being fostered by
Indiana-PAW foster parents and featured as an Indiana-PAW "Pet Of
The Week." Louises story is an example of the miracles that happen
when animal welfare agencies work together: Indianapolis
Animal Care & Control rescued Louise from Hurricane
Katrina-stricken Louisiana. Indiana-PAW
foster parents Rae and Don Steeb provided Louise with foster care.
ASTRO
Pit Bull Rescue helped find Louise a permanent home. What a
success!
Indiana-PAW & The Humane Society For Hamilton County Take
A Walk Last weekend, Indiana-PAW staff
and volunteers turned out to support the Humane Society for Hamilton
County at their "Walk For The Animals" fundraiser (see photo at
right). Coming up next: Fishers Freedom Festival on June 24th --
Don't forget to sign
up today!
Can You Help Shelter Indiana-PAW From The Sun &
Rain? As you can see from the photo at right, community
outreach for Indiana-PAW takes us across the State. Often, we find
ourselves standing in sweltering sun and pouring rain. Several of
our volunteers have suggested we buy a small tent for about $200,
but we don't have the budget to do this. If you'd like to underwrite
a tent to help make our work more pleasant, we'd be forever
grateful. Click
here if you'd like to help!
Aw Shucks Steve Abbott & Kathy McGriff,
Indiana coordinators for Bearded Collie Club of America (BCCA)
Rescue, recently sent Indiana- PAW a note of praise:
"...As an organization committed to the rescue of
our breed, we have employed both the Indiana-PAW Super Database
and the Indiana-PAW Foster Roster to facilitate our own needs.
Both have been extremely useful...I know of no other service like
Indiana-PAW available to animal welfare workers anywhere. In the
years we have worked with the Indiana-PAW staff we have found them
to be friendly, courteous, and, above all, extremely effective at
what they do. I encourage you [shelters and rescue groups] to find
ways to open appropriate collaborations with this highly useful
organization in order to expand and improve the animal welfare
community for all of us." Thanks, Steve and Kathy!
Cats & Kittens At New Castle/Henry County Animal Shelter
Need URGENT Help The New Castle/Henry County Animal
Shelter is in desperate need of individuals willing to adopt a cat
or kitten, or rescue agencies willing to take in cats and kittens.
The shelter had two cats confiscations last week, and Friday alone
received 35(!) cats and kittens! If someone can PLEASE help them
out, contact Dana Salkoski ASAP at rescuedana@gmail.com.
Indiana-PAW Foster Parents Hard At Work Indiana-PAW continues
to grow its flagship program - its foster program, which loans
Indiana-PAW foster parents to shelters and rescue groups across the
State who need temporary homes for animals at risk for euthanasia.
Just this week, new Indiana- PAW foster mom Donna Krueger-Kadel
became a foster parent for a dog named Kona (pictured at right), who
is available for adoption through the Humane Society for Hamilton
County. Thank you, Donna, for being a hero to a Hoosier pet in need!

Transport Supplies Still Needed Indiana-PAW is still in need
of crates and leashes and collars for our Transport
Supplies Loaner Program. If you have supplies you can spare, it
would definitely help the program. In fact, Indiana-PAW volunteer
Jan Myer, the coordinator for our Transport Supplies Loaner Program
used some of the donated supplies just last week to assist in the
transport of 10 puppies to Illinois. Jan had this to say about her
experience:
"I was confidant these animals would be quickly
adopted once they reached their final destination in Plainfield,
IL. Even though we were with these animals a total of only two
hours it was hard to say good-bye, but knowing they were getting
an opportunity to find their forever home made the transport all
the more rewarding and a great way to help our furry friends."
Thank you to those of you who've donated supplies
to help our four-legged friends on their journeys to better lives!
And thanks to all of YOU for all you do for Indiana animals!
