Indiana-PAW Pet Of The Week Sponsored By

Feeney

Fenney Background: Sweet Feeney was rescued in New Orleans in October '05 and was a favorite at Camp Katrina, where everyone loved to give her belly rubs. Sadly, just when she thought she was safe, a series of unfortunate events left Feeney neglected and on the end of a chain. Happily, the people who originally rescued her were able to persuade her "owner" to let them have her back. She's has recoverd fully from the experience and is her vibrant, healthy self again. This little sugar bear has been waiting patiently for a person or family of her very own. Could it be you?

Gender: Female

Breed: American Pitbull Terrier

Approximate Age: 2-3 years old

Spay/Neuter Status: Yes, Feeney is spayed!

Vaccinations: Yes, Feeney is up-to-date with all her vaccines.

Housetrained: Yes, Feeney is house-trained!

Compatibility with Other Animals: Feeney should go to a home without any other dogs or cats.

Personality: Feeney is sparkly, silly, very loving, and just LIVES for belly rubs and peanut butter Kongs! She's energetic but not hyper, eager to please and extremely handler responsive. She is learning some basic obedience and picking it up very quickly. Overall she is fairly low-maintenance.

Ideal Home: Feeney's ideal home would be with anyone or any family who wants to have a loving companion - she a wonderful dog. It's preferred that she be adopted to a family with a fenced yard or good mean of containment.

To Adopt: If you are interested in adopting or meeting Feeney, please contact Indy Pit Crew. You can visit Feeney's Dogster page at http://www.dogster.com/dogs/443412 or e-mail Laura at lauragonzo@comcast.net for more information.

Harley - ADOPTED!

Harley Background: Harley was found as a stray who was not picked up by his owners. He is very thin and needs to gain about 5 pounds, but he is in *excellent* health and is very active. Harley is a nice combination of an older dog with a puppy playfulness about him. How about making Harley part of your family?

Gender: Male

Breed: Shiba Inu

Approximate Age: 5 years old

Spay/Neuter Status: Yes, Harley is neutered!

Vaccinations: Yes, Harley is up-to-date with all his vaccines.

Housetrained: Yes, Harley is house-trained!

Compatibility with Children: Harley loves his foster mom's two young children (ages 7 and 5). In fact, his favorite people are children, and we'd love to see him go to a home where he can have kids to love him!

Compatibility with Other Animals: Harley's downfall is his dog aggression upon being introduced to another dog. When he sees a dog with whom he is not familiar, he will bark, jump on his leash, and often do the "shiba scream." He sounds very fierce, but this seems to be all talk. However, his "big mouth" will often get him in trouble. Harley needs a firm owner who can take him to positive obedience training and learn how to effectively handle these behaviors. Once introduced to other dogs, he is rather mellow, but on walks and in the vet's office care must be taken to keep him out of trouble. In terms of cats, he is being fostered with two dog-savvy cats with minimal interest on his part so far.

Personality: Harley enjoys chasing tennis balls in his foster mom's fenced yard. He is very athletic and leggy and would be a great agility dog. Harley likes to find a nice sun ray to nap during the day.

Ideal Home: Harley would do well with or without another dog in the family. If there is another dog, care should be taken to properly introduce the two of them. DUE TO THE BREED'S INDEPENDENT NATURE, SHIBAS SHOULD ALWAYS BE LEASHED OUTSIDE A SECURE AREA!

To Adopt: If you are interested in adopting or meeting Harley, please contact Midwest Shiba Inu Rescue by emailing the_kokonuts@verizon.net. You can also find out more online at www.shibarescue.org and adoption information is available at www.shibarescue.org/adopt.html. Harley's adoption fee is $300.
